Lawyers in five rock bands from Spanish leading law firms took center stage on June 17 at Madrid’s famous concert venue, La Riviera, with Spanish television celebrity, Paula Vazquez, giving a stellar fundraising concert in an entertaining and unforgettable night of rock and roll. The event’s promotors donated the money yesterday to Father Mateo Garralda at his foundation’s headquarters.
The €49,718.80 raised will be designated to the Kostka Project, a volunteer program helping children under three years of age who live with their mothers in prison.
Children living with their mothers in prison are at a very critical stage of their lives, in which their personality is being shaped. The Kostka Project gives them out-of–prison experiences, to encourage early stimulation. Living together outside prison teaches them new behavior, which they cannot learn otherwise.
Fundación Padre Garralda-Horizontes Abiertos runs a volunteer program around Spain that currently helps 130 children. Thanks to the volunteers, the children meet grandparents, celebrate birthdays and Christmas, and spend weekends outside prison.
The Rock in Law project started in Lisbon in 2009, when several law firms organized a fundraising concert in which rock bands formed by the firms’ lawyers took part. After this great success Madrid organized a concert this year with the same formula, and had a turnout of 2,000 people.
