Mr. Fortún specializes in international arbitration, cross-border litigation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He advises Spanish and foreign companies involved in international projects on procedural law and international commercial arbitration. He has represented private investors before the governments of emerging countries.
He is recognized nationally and internationally as a promoter of arbitration in Spain, and has ample experience and specializes in energy law, joint ventures, engineering and construction. He has participated in more than 40 arbitrations in the main national courts (the Court of Arbitration of Madrid, the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration, and the Arbitration Board of Barcelona) and international courts (International Chamber of Commerce, London Court of International Arbitration, International Centre for Dispute Resolution, and the Court of Arbitration of Vienna), as well as in ad hoc arbitrations and other means of dispute resolution (adjudication, expert determination or dispute boards).
Mr. Fortún is an arbitator at the Court of Arbitration of Madrid, the European Arbitration Association, and the Hispanic -Moroccan Court. He was foreign counsel to the US firm Fullbright & Jaworski in Houston (Texas) from 1999 to 2000.
In recent years, he has represented sports events sponsors, football clubs, and sports federations and athletes, appearing before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. He specializes in the Sports Law practice in matters relating to private and procedural international law, litigation and arbitration.
Mr. Fortún is an associate of London's Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a member of the Executive Committee of the European Branch. He is also a member of Georgetown University's European Law Advisory Board.
He is an associate lecturer at the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía, lecturing in its Master in International Sports Law and its Master of International Law.
He is also an associate lecturer at the Universidad Interamericana in Puerto Rico.
The journal Global Arbitration Review recognized him as one of the top 21 Spanish arbitration practitioners.

Mr. Fortún has been recommended by several legal directories such as Global Arbitration Review, which considers him one of the Top 21 Spanish arbitration practitioners, Chambers Global, Chambers Europe and Who’s Who Legal, in Dispute Resolution and Arbitration. In 2009, he received the "40 under 40" award, which the prestigious publication Iberian Lawyer Review grants to the top 40 lawyers under 40 years of age on the Iberian Peninsula.
