Mr. Ward is a partner at Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira in the Competition and EU Law Group in Madrid. Previously, he worked as a barrister in London and as an associate at a leading law firm in Brussels.
He specializes in European Union and Spanish competition law. He has extensive experience in merger control (notifications of acquisitions of control, mergers, and joint ventures), defending clients in competition authority investigations, and managing antitrust risks (including designing, planning and implementing audits and compliance programs, and training employees and management). He also deals with state aid and other issues pertaining to EU law.
Between 2006 and 2010, Mr. Ward was a visiting professor of “Comparative Competition Law” at the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific, California. He also lectures in masters programs organized by ESADE, the Business School of the Universidad San Pablo CEU, and the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, among others.
He is the author of numerous publications in Spain and internationally, including chapters on Spanish competition law in “Merger Control Worldwide” and “Cartels Worldwide,” published by Cambridge University Press. He has spoken at the International Bar Association’s annual conference, and frequently speaks in specialized forums such as the Asociación Española de Defensa de la Competencia (Spanish Association for the Defense of Competition) and the Fundación ICO Nebrija.
