Mr. Conejero Roos specializes in international arbitration, transnational litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Before joining the firm, he was counsel for Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula in the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) International Court of Arbitration in Paris, where he oversaw hundreds of arbitrations involving public and private companies from various industrial sectors. Mr. Conejero Roos was responsible for reviewing the awards submitted by the ICC's arbitration boards for subsequent examination and approval by the ICC International Court of Arbitration.
He reviewed various awards rendered in investment arbitrations based on Bilateral Investment Treaties (BIT) conducted under the aegis of the ICC. He was also secretary of the ICC Latin American Arbitration Group, coordinating the annual meetings and reports of a forum of experts in arbitration in Latin America. Previously, he practiced as a foreign associate at the firm Shearman & Sterling LLP in New York, and as an associate in litigation and arbitration at Claro y Cía. in Chile.
His practice involves advising clients on international arbitration and transnational disputes. He is currently involved in an investment arbitration between a Spanish company and a Latin American country based on claims related to the expropriation of the investment made in such country under a BIT, and in an ICC arbitration for infringement of representations and warranties in the purchase of a company group in Latin America.
He is currently a member of many international associations, including the Board of Reporters of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA), the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the International Law Association (ILA) and its International Arbitration Commission.
He is also a member of the Club Español de Arbitraje (Spanish Arbitration Club-CEA), the Comite Brasileiro de Arbitragem (Brazilian Arbitration Committee-CBAR), the International Scientific Council of the Comité Venezolano de Arbitraje (Venezuelan Arbitration Committee), and the Advisory Council of the Comité Argentino para el Arbitraje Nacional y Transnacional (Argentinean Committee for National and Transnational Arbitration-CARAT).
He speaks frequently on international arbitration at Instituto de Empresa, Universidad de Alcalá and Universidad Autonóma de Madrid. He also lectures on the same topic in the Mastère Spécialisé Droit des Affaires Internationales et Management (Masters in International Law and Management) at ESSEC in Paris.
He is the author of many articles on arbitration, published in the Journal of International Arbitration, ICC Bulletin, Revista de la Corte Española de Arbitraje, Revista Internacional de Arbitraje and Revista de Arbitragem y Mediaçao. He also co-authored a chapter in the book Arbitraje en Brasil: Práctica y Procedimiento (Arbitration in Brazil: Practice and Procedure), published by Juris Publishing in 2006.
