He has mainly focused his practice on employment law. He has participated in hundreds of judicial proceedings, by participating in oral argument or submitting written briefs; negotiated and drafted employment and other similar contracts; participated in and negotiated the termination of employment contracts; advised on collective dismissal procedures, the termination of working positions and company transfers; worked on disciplinary proceedings; drafted legal opinions and other types of legal information; and provided general advice, providing the necessary legal assistance both during the incorporation of companies and during their day-to-day operation.
As a legal advisor, he has collaborated with many cultural institutions and participated on many projects. For example, he formed part of the working group of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture established to review the employment legislation applicable to performing artists with employment contracts. He has advised several aeronautics companies, in some cases coordinating and supervising the setting up of labor structures. He has also acted as an advisor on employment and legal matters for companies, associations and foundations mainly from the following sectors: rail and road transport, media, teaching, health, tourism, food and beverage distribution, automobile, paper and cork production, civil construction and fuels.
He was a founding partner of Saraiva e Sousa, Gomes de Almeida & Associados, Lisbon, where he was based from 1997 to June 2008.
Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 1990.
Member of the Portuguese Intellectual Law Association.
He was advisor to the Portuguese Ministry of Culture on legal and employment matters from 1998 to 1999.
From 2002 to 2006, he was in charge of the legal matters of the Department of Culture of the municipality of Lisbon and was a member of the Viability Commission of "Associagco Mzsica Educagco e Cultura" of the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra from 2002 to 2003.
Among several publications, he is Co-Author of the New Labour Code with Notes and Comments.
