Juan María Varela

Mr. Varela has extensive experience in tax planning and advising on tax matters, having participated in many corporate and family-business group restructurings, mergers, and share acquisitions.

He also has ample experience in advising large Spanish business groups (tax consolidation regime) and multinational groups (Spanish and foreign parent companies and their subsidiaries), and in planning processes related to the restructuring and buying of business groups.

He has extensive knowledge of the culture and business world of Brazil.

He was in-house tax advisor at the Caja de Ahorros Municipal de Vigo (now Novacaixagalicia) from 1984 to 1991, and was head of tax consultancy at the Grupo Cimpor/Corporación Noroeste from 1991 to 2001. He lectures in the Master in Taxation and Tax Systems at the Escuela de Negocios de Novacaixagalicia, and the Master in Managing Construction and Real Estate Companies organized by the Asociacisn de Promotores Inmobiliarios de la Coruqa (Association of real estate developers of La Coruña).

He has been a member of the Vigo Bar Association since 1984.
