According to Antonio Baena, international coordinator, the many changes come under our Strategic Plan and must be interpreted as more than a simple rotation of appointments.

Antonio Baena to head New York office and Jaume Ribó to develop its Finance Practice

Ignacio Buil to take helm in London and Marco Antonio Sanz to develop its Corporate and Commercial Practice's M&A

Teams in China, Colombia and Mexico to be reinforced

New phase of international expansion for Cuatrecasas coincides with celebration of its centenary year and implementation of its Strategic Plan.

Replacements in New York and London

There are important replacements in the New York and London offices. Antonio Baena, international coordinator and, until now managing partner of the London office, will manage the New York office, taking the reins from Elena Cuatrecasas, who has managed it for the last three years and is now returning to the M&A Group of the Corporate and Commercial Practice at the Barcelona office. Senior associate Jaume Ribó will also move to New York to develop the Finance Practice. Partner Iñigo Aguirrezabala will continue to develop the Tax Practice in New York.

There are also changes in the London office, where partner Ignacio Buil (Corporate Finance) will take leadership. Up until now, he co-managed with Antonio Baena. Partner Marco Sanz will join the London office to work in the M&A Group of the Corporate and Commercial Practice and the Private Equity Practice.

Continued development in Latin America

The Mexico City office is growing steadily and taking on important clients and new hires. In the last 12 months, it has taken on partners Marco de la Peña(Energy) Santiago Ferrer (Corporate and Commercial M&A), Liliana Corzo (Corporate Finance) and the counsel Francisco Carbajal (Tax). Soon an arbitration partner will join the team. Thanks to the hiring of these professionals and their respective teams, the Mexico City office can advise on multidisciplinary transactions and on the main areas of business law.

Also, our joint venture with Posse Herrera Ruiz in Colombia will celebrate its first anniversary in September. The joint venture organized business development events in town planning, investments, financing and tax, placing the firm in a leading position in the Colombian legal market. In September, Manuel Franco, senior associate of the Litigation and Arbitration Practice, will move to Colombia to reinforce the team made up of Alfonso Reina (Corporate and Commercial M&A) and Carlos Lasarte (Corporate Finance).

Opening of Beijing office

Our team in China will extend its services to Beijing when the new office opens in September under the leadership of Pablo Cubel, Corporate and Commercial partner who will manage the office in coordination with Omar Puertas in Shanghai.

According to Antonio Baena, international coordinator, the many changes come under our Strategic Plan and must be interpreted as more than a simple rotation of appointments. “The good financial results and the increase of business created and referred to us confirms that we are moving in the right direction. We will continue to strengthen our international offices’ positions, acquiring more clients and establishing a stable office model at the service of our network.”
