The retention of female talent and its promotion in governance bodies has become a challenge for companies in all sectors. New working methodologies and the implementation of mentoring programs are some of the measures that are up and running to standardize equality policies.

These are some of the main conclusions reached in the “Talent Management from a Gender Perspective” work session held in Barcelona and organized by the firm’s Tax partners Nuria NicolauSonia Velasco and Meritxell Yus. Over 20 female directors from leading companies in various sectors attended this working lunch.

“During the meeting, it was evident that talent management, particularly that of female talent, is a concern shared by our clients,” said Nicolau. The attendees agreed on the “importance of placing female talent on boards of directors and in management and under-management positions, because this is where promotion policies and strategies are decided,” according to Elisabeth de Nadal, deputy managing partner of Cuatrecasas.

One of the most telling trends is that “some companies are now requesting that service providers have workforces that meet their gender and diversity standards, a common practice in the United States and the United Kingdom,” highlighted Velasco.

During the meeting, attention was drawn to Cuatrecasas’s commitment to achieve a 25% rate of women in management positions by 2018, and to implement female talent retention programs.

Besides exchanging views, Yus stressed that “the event has promoted networking and the generation of synergies between different representatives of the business world to identify common challenges, beyond the legal sphere.”
