Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, through its Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Practice and Finance Practice, has advised CaixaBank on acquiring 98.9% of Banco de Valencia and on the Asset Protection Scheme entered into in the framework of the transaction.

According to a report by the Bank of Spain, the Spanish Competition Commission has already approved the transaction, considering that “the notified transaction is not likely to hinder competition in the banking service markets.”

Víctor Xercavins, partner of the firm’s M&A Practice, Fernando Mínguez, partner of the Banking Law Practice, and Marco Antonio Sanz, senior associate of the M&A Practice, led the legal team that advised Caixabank. Víctor Xercavins highlights that “from a general perspective, the transaction represents an important step in restructuring the Spanish financial sector and, from Caixabank’s perspective, it enables it to strengthen its leadership in the Spanish market.”
