  • The appointments strengthen all of the firm’s practice areas

Cuatrecasas, a leading law firm in Spain and Portugal, representing public companies in both countries, has appointed eight new equity partners and five counsels in its General Partners Meeting held in Madrid on April 7 and 8.

These appointments are representative of the firm’s main practice areas and offices, and strengthen strategic areas such as its Finance, Corporate and Commercial, and Real Estate Practices, sustaining the growth achieved over the last six years. With these new promotions, Cuatrecasas will have 207 equity partners and 47 counsels.

About the new partners

IGNACIO BUIL

Finance – London

He has extensive experience in financing and debt-restructuring transactions (in and out of court), and in negotiating financing and refinancing agreements involving a wide range of capital structures. He has been based in the London office since 2013 as a member of the firm’s Finance Practice.

BEATRIZ CAUSAPÉ

Finance – Barcelona

She specializes in corporate acquisition financing, syndicated and bilateral loans, real estate finance, securitization deals, project finance, public-private partnerships in infrastructures, structured finance, and guarantees. She is now focusing on the secondary loan trading markets.

GERMÁN DOMÍNGUEZ

Corporate and Commercial – Girona

He has ample experience in advising on financial, legal and tax issues relating to bank refinancing processes and bankruptcy proceedings. He has participated in many corporate restructuring operations, as well as advising and planning for corporate groups, both at national and international level.

ÁLVARO ESCUDER

Tax – Barcelona

He has extensive experience in advising large family businesses and on personal tax structure of major taxpayers. He also has ample experience in tax planning for reorganizing processes of company groups and in mergers, acquisitions, and transfers, as well as in corporate taxation of large business groups.

JOAQUÍN GARAULET

Real Estate and Construction – Madrid

He is an expert in real estate issues and has participated in numerous transactions to sell real estate, as well as in lease agreements, sale and leaseback, surface area rights, transferring assets to companies, due diligence and real estate agreements related to renewable energy.

DIANA RIVERA

Mergers and Acquisitions - Madrid

As a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Practice, Diana Rivera has handled many company sales transactions, mergers, business restructurings and joint ventures. She also has extensive experience in private-equity investment and disinvestment transactions in many sectors.

NUNO SÁ CARVALHO

Real Estate and Construction - Lisbon

He specializes in the real estate and construction sector. The main projects on which he has provided legal advice in recent years include planning and implementing important investments, and real estate transactions and projects, and monitoring procedures relating to building, managing and implementing real estate developments for commercial, industrial, logistics, tourism and residential purposes.

PABLO VILLASECA

Criminal Law – Madrid

He is an expert in planning defense strategies and preventing the commission of crimes. He has ample experience in defending clients in court regarding criminal matters and civil liability in relation to white-collar crime, fraud, offenses against the tax authorities and offenses against workers’ rights, among others.

Tax - Valencia

He has ample experience in advising on institutional tax matters, on designing investment products, and on tax planning for restructuring processes, mergers and acquisitions. Throughout his career, he has also participated in many projects advising clients on the application of innovation-related tax benefits.

SILVIA MORRO

Tax - Madrid

She has extensive experience in tax consultancy and planning, particularly in business restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and taxation of consolidated groups. She also has ample experience in advising family businesses, particularly advising the family offices of holders of large estates on tax matters.

GONÇALO AFONSO PROENÇA

Public Law – Lisbon

An expert in public law and town planning, Gonçalo Proença has extensive experience in actions for damages arising from extracontractual liability of the state and other public entities, and actions for damages arising from non-compliance of concession contracts, particularly in the railway sector. 

RITA LEANDRO VASCONCELOS

Competition and EU Law – Lisbon

She specializes in competition and EU law, and has extensive experience advising on acquisitions in the air passenger transport, energy, financial markets, motorways and telecommunications sectors.

JUAN IGNACIO RAMOS

Tax – Barcelona

He has developed his career in the Indirect Taxation Group and has extensive experience in advising large business groups from various sectors mainly on matters related to VAT, customs debts, and special taxes.
