Posse Herrera Ruiz and Cuatrecasas announce an alliance to offer comprehensive legal services to clients with interests in the Colombian market and Colombian clients with interests in the Iberian market.

The two firms have created a company, Posse Herrera Ruiz + Cuatrecasas, with headquarters in Bogotá, through which they will coordinate services for mutual clients.

Cuatrecasas and Posse Herrera Ruiz will provide comprehensive legal services in Spain, Portugal and Colombia, focusing particularly on corporate, finance, international arbitration, tax, and energy.

Both firms will maintain their independence and alliance policies, and rule out the possibility of merging their firms and brands.

Cuatrecasas, the leading law firm in Spain and Portugal, has formed an alliance with Posse Herrera Ruiz, the benchmark law firm in Colombia. The firms aim to maximize their joint synergies to offer comprehensive services to clients with interests in the Iberian Peninsula and Colombia.

The alliance between the two firms has materialized with the creation of Bogotá-based company, Posse Herrera Ruiz + Cuatrecasas, through which the firms will coordinate services for mutual clients. Both firms will maintain their independence and alliance policies, and rule out the possibility of merging their firms and brands.

This alliance stems from years of experience working together, and will benefit from the collaboration between each firm’s international alliance networks. One clear example is the European network of law firms made up of Chiomenti (Italy), Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira (Spain and Portugal), Gide Loyrette Nouel (France) y Gleiss Lutz (Germany).

This new company will allow Posse Herrera Ruiz and Cuatrecasas to provide seamless legal services to their clients in all areas of company law, mainly focusing on corporate-M&A, banking and finance, international arbitration, tax, infrastructures, and energy and natural resources.

To this end, Cuatrecasas lawyers will move to Bogotá, where they will work alongside their Posse Herrera Ruiz colleagues to build integrated, multidisciplinary and multicultural teams. Alfonso Reina, a partner of Cuatrecasas’s Corporate Practice, and Carlos Lasarte, a senior associate of its Banking and Finance Practice, will move to Bogotá, where they will work indefinitely at the new company.

The alliance also seeks to foster the exchange of lawyers and to develop joint training, knowledge management and technological innovation initiatives.

For Posse Herrera Ruiz, the agreement will boost its growth as an independent firm, reinforcing its international presence and granting the firm and its clients privileged access to the Iberian market.

Cuatrecasas in Latin America

The agreement is in line with Cuatrecasas’s implementation strategy in the region, based on a flexible model that prioritizes its clients’ interests and needs, and adapts to the specific situation in each country.

This initiative will strengthen the firm’s position in Latin America, where it has been offering high-quality advice for over 20 years and has achieved a privileged position of independence, attracting business deriving from the growing flow of investments in and transactions with Latin American companies.

The alliance with Posse Herrera Ruiz in Colombia complements the recent opening of Cuatrecasas’s office in Mexico City and its presence in Sao Paulo since 2000.
