Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira organized a meeting with clients to analyze the possible effects and implications of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.

Partners Andrew Ward, Fernando Mínguez, Íñigo Quintana and Ignacio Buil spoke at a session that reviewed the challenges and opportunities that Brexit presents for companies.

The partners especially elaborated on the impact on rights and obligations resulting from regulating the Four Freedoms that are the pillars of the single market, the implications for providing financial services and changes in applicable law, the jurisdiction clause and judicial jurisdiction for the different sectors.

“While remaining in the European Union is a perfectly defined legal situation, what is outside is unclear. The United Kingdom’s future relationship with the EU, if it does indeed leave, is most uncertain and the legal implications could vary widely,” explained Fernando Mínguez.

Ignacio Buil confirmed that “as a law firm, we must be near our clients both from the Spain and Portugal offices, and from our London office. Events like today’s, with the attendance that we had, show that there is a lot of interest in the matter.”
