An opportunity to strengthen economic ties between the two countries

Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira hosted the Fifth Spain-US Business Forum, organized by Círculo de Empresarios (Circle of Entrepreneurs) and the Spain-US Chamber of Commerce, at its head office in Madrid.

The forum enabled Spanish and US entrepreneurs, experts and politicians to exchange knowledge and explore synergies in an aim to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

The US, where we have offices in New York, is a strategic market for us that opens the door to Latin America.

Rafael Fontana, the firm’s Senior Partner, opened the forum by reminding the attendees of the significant time at which it was being held: during negotiations between the US and the European Union for the free trade agreement. He noted that “When the agreement is ratified, a new and very promising stage will be set for economic cooperation and business opportunities between Spanish and US companies.”

Partner Antonio Barba, of the firm’s Tax Practice, took part in discussion panels to give an in-depth explanation of the tax, legal, and financial framework for investment in the US.

Apart from important Spanish and US entrepreneurs, other attendees at the forum were Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros, the high commissioner of Marca España (Brand Spain); Antonio Fernández-Martos, director general for international trade and investment of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Competitiveness; Alan Sólomont, the former United States ambassador to Spain; Javier Vega de Seoane, chair of Círculo de Empresarios; and José Fernandez, the former US assistant secretary of state for economic, energy and business affairs.
