  • Cuatrecasas startup accelerator program reached agreement with Alastria to promote projects developing blockchain technology and smart contracts
  • Program will also have Fast Track, enabling legaltech startups to test solutions at Cuatrecasas

Cuatrecasas Acelera, the startup accelerator from Cuatrecasas law firm, has become a benchmark in the legaltech sector, and the third program is now underway. After the success of the two previous programs, with the participation of 15 startups, Cuatrecasas now launches this third program to boost blockchain technology and smart contracts.

To do this, Cuatrecasas Acelera reached an agreement with Alastria, a multisectorial consortium of over 255 Spanish institutions and companies that provide Spain with a semi-public blockchain infrastructure. With this agreement, the selected startups that develop projects with this technology will be mentored by a blockchain expert from Alastria to deploy their solutions on the network, and they will have opportunities to develop use cases with the partners. The Alastria infrastructure also provides major advantages in terms of transaction speed, cost reduction and integrated privacy mechanisms.

Another new development in this program is the implementation of a Fast Track through which startups with more advanced solutions can carry out a pilot test in Cuatrecasas. This will enable them to find out the viability of their initiatives in a real professional environment.

The application process to participate in the third startups program begins today, June 5, and will remain open until July 16. In September, between 20 to 25 initiatives will be shortlisted, and the 6 startups selected for the program will be announced by the end of the month.

Cuatrecasas Acelera will select startups with innovative solutions on a European level for business law (legaltech) and other fields with a high degree of legal complexity (including fintech, insurtech and medtech), highlighting blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies, and which have not been created more than five years ago. They must also have (i) at least one functional viable product, (ii) a solid work team, and (ii) show that they have an innovative and market-oriented solution.

Telefónica Open Future_ and StepOne Ventures

In this third startups program, Cuatrecasas Acelera works again with the Telefónica Open Future_ initiative, the global platform designed to connect entrepreneurs, startups, investors and public and private partners from around the world, to capture innovation and business opportunities. Cuatrecasas also has the consultancy of  StepOne Ventures, of the Barrabés Group, to draw on its experience in startups, innovation laboratories observatories and international growth projects.

Direct, tailored support for startups

Cuatrecasas Acelera benefits from the experience acquired during the two previous programs to provide the startups with a specific methodology that adapts to the requirements of the environment and the startup ecosystem. The selected projects will form part of a startup program combining individual and group sessions focused on startup requirements, with a highly practical approach. Moreover, all the projects will have the opportunity to access a unique ecosystem that will enable them to validate their business model and multiply their possibilities of achieving clients and financing.
