After six years being held in Barcelona, this year, national rounds of Jessup Moot Competition were held at Cuatrecasas Madrid headquarters from February 15 to 17

For the seventh consecutive year, Cuatrecasas hosted the national classification round of the prestigious international competition for law students, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which started on Wednesday and concluded today.

Young hopeful lawyers-to-be from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Universitat Ramon Llull (ESADE) participated in the Jessup Moot Court Competition, arguing a case on established issues before a panel of lawyers, academics and judges. This year’s topics were transboundary water aquifers, the legality of natural resource development that causes damage to World Heritage Sites, the repatriation of stolen cultural artifacts, and the payment of compensation for the burden of hosting refugee camps.

After three days of competition, the winning team was made up of students from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, who competed in the last round against the participants from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The Carlos III students will go on to compete in spring in the White & Case Jessup World Championship rounds to be held in Washington, D.C.
