April 23, 2018

The Chambers Europe Awards 2018 ceremony, held in Madrid, presented Cuatrecasas partner Cani Fernández with one of its honorary awards, the "Outstanding contribution to the legal profession," thus making her the first woman to receive the honor.

In her speech, Cani, who was accompanied by a group of Cuatrecasas colleagues headed by Cuatrecasas managing partner Jorge Badía, thanked the firm for the support she has received over the years, remarking that the award "also reflects the hard work and tireless effort and dedication of many women in the legal sector." Cani also emphasized that she particularly values this recognition "because the Chambers rankings and awards are unquestionably merit-based and I believe in open societies where people achieve success through work hard, perseverance and the ability to collaborate with others.”

Head of the firm’s Competition and EU Law Practice, Cani Fernández was legal counsel at the Court of Justice of the European Union from 1994 to 1997. She co-chaired the Antitrust Committee of the International Bar Association from 2012 to 2014 and is currently vice-chair of the Economics Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law. She is also non-governmental advisor to the European Commission and the Spanish Competition Authority (CNMC) before the International Competition Network. A brilliant career that has now been deservedly recognized with this award.
