Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira has advised Meliá Hotels International (“Meliá”) on its strategic alliance with the Chinese real estate group Greenland.  Under the alliance, Meliá will manage under its brand two of Greenland’s hotels in China, in the cities of Jinan and Tianjin, and one in Germany, in Frankfurt, which will be the first European hotel under a Chinese brand.

The transaction, led by managing partner of the firm’s Shanghai office, Omar Puertas, extends Meliá’s presence in China to five hotels and 2,000 rooms. Lawyers Xialei Cai and Jun Hu worked with Mr. Puertas on the transaction. Mr. Puertas stated “We are very happy to have worked with Meliá and assisted it with this new expansion, one of its most important investments for the future in Asia.”

With a team of Chinese and foreign lawyers, the Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira Shanghai office has been permanently established in Shanghai for the last five years. Chambers and Partners, European Legal 500 and Tax Directors Handbook recommend it as a foreign law firm in China.
