Frederico Pereira Coutinho is the new Director of Portugal of Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira

Partner Frederico Pereira Coutinho is the new Director of Portugal of Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira and a member of the firm's Board of Directors. Having been with the law firm for over 25 years, Frederico Pereira Coutinho assumes this leadership for three years, with the aim of providing continuity to the growth and internationalization strategy during the new upcoming economic cycle, at a time when the firm in Portugal boasts 29 partners and 210 professionals, between lawyers and support staff.

Specialized in corporate law, Frederico Pereira Coutinho’s career spans 28 years, most of them working within Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, which he joined in 1989, becoming a partner in 1996. The main projects he has worked on in recent years include advising on company acquisitions and joint venture negotiations, as well as advising on commercial, competition and property Law. He has also lectured on private international law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and is the author of several articles and national and international lectures. In addition to legal practice, for many years, he has assumed a management role in the firm, particularly regarding the international aspects of the Iberian firm. He has been a member of the International Committee of the Iberian law firm since its inception, and has participated in many other internal committees dealing with issues, including governance, professional assessment and the prevention of conflicts of interest.

Starting on July 1, Frederico Pereira Coutinho succeeds Maria João Ricou and Diogo Perestrelo in the role, partners whose three-year mandate ended at the start of last year.

Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira is a leading law firm in Portugal and Spain. It represents some of the main listed companies of both countries, advising on strategic operations and advising foreign investors interested in the Iberian market. The firm began with the firms Emilio Cuatrecasas Buquet created in 1917 in Spain and Armando Gonçalves Pereira created in 1928 in Portugal; its presence in Iberia is the result of the merger of the two law firms in 2003. It has over 950 lawyers, distributed in 25 offices in 11 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. In Portugal, the firm has 29 partners, 82 associates, four counsel, 17 interns and 78 other staff members in non-legal roles, divided between the offices in Lisbon and Porto.
