Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira has appointed Maria da Paz Tierno Lopeas the managing partner of the firm's Sao Paulo office. Maria became a partner in 2011 and will continue developing activities on behalf of the firm together with Andoni Hernández, the office's managing partner until June 30, 2016.

The appointment strengthens Cuatracasas Gonçalves Pereira's commitment to the Latin American market, where, in addition to the Sao Paulo office, it has recently opened an office in Mexico City.

Cuatrecasas has been present in Brazil for over 15 years and, according to Maria da Paz Tierno Lopes, “despite the political and economic situation in Brazil, the country remains a natural destination for clients from Spain and Portugal. In the office we have recorded significant growth in activity and a greater interest in Brazilian projects, compared to last year.”

Maria da Paz Tierno Lopes has been a partner in the Corporate and Commercial Practice at Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira since 2011 and is one of the few female leaders in a top international firm present in Latin America. The main projects in which she has participated in recent years include transnational M&As of foreign investors investing in Brazil and Brazilian companies operating abroad.

She has a Bachelor of Laws from Universidad Lusíada de Lisboa and a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Banking, Finance and Corporate Law from the Fordham University School of Law of New York.
