On June 3, Paulo de Sá e Cunha became the head of the Cuatrecasas Porto desk, which has a team of twenty lawyers (including one partner, fifteen associates, and four interns), and seven support employees, and which has provided advisory services to many of the main companies in the market in transactions and litigation.

Maria João Ricou, a Cuatrecasas managing partner in Portugal, says: “Paulo de Sá e Cunha has become increasingly involved in the Porto desk's activity, in addition to coordinating the Criminal and Administrative Offenses Law area in Portugal. He is the obvious candidate. The Porto desk has had a remarkable growth, about 21% in 2018, and thus above the firm’s global 12% growth, and we intend to continue to support and invest in its growth and consolidation”.

Paulo de Sá e Cunha says that “he is very excited about working more closely with the excellent Porto team. It is a desk with a strong reputation, based on the recognition of 30 years’ practice in all legal areas, providing legal advice to a diversified client base from the private and public sectors. This makes it possible to develop new business areas with great optimism, always seeking to create value for our clients”.

Paulo de Sá e Cunha has had a career of more than 30 years and since 2008 has been a partner in the Iberian legal firm Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, in which he coordinates the Criminal and Administrative Offense Law area. He was a founder of Fórum Penal – Association of Criminal Lawyers, which he chaired between 2012 and 2014, and a founding associate of organizations such as the Portuguese Intellectual Law Association, Gestautor - Association for Collective Copyright Management, ACEGE - Christian Association of Business Owners and Managers, and OSCOT - Observatory for Security, Organized Crime, and Terrorism. He was the head of the legal department at SUCH - Services for Common Use of Hospitals (1998-2002) and the head of cabinet for the Portuguese State Secretary for Healthcare Management (1989-1990). He is a teacher, a guest lecturer, and a speaker in various courses, conferences, congresses, and seminars specializing in Criminal and Administrative Offenses Law. He has been internationally recognized in some of the main lawyers’ directories, including Chambers and Partners and Legal 500. In 2016, he was named the “most highly regarded individual” in Business Crime Defense in the Who's Who Legal - Thought Leaders directory, and in 2019 he was named “lawyer of the year” in Criminal Defense, by Best Lawyers.
