The minister for justice, Rafael Catalá, attended the Seville Bar Association to pay tribute to Manuel Olivencia. The honorary chairman of Cuatrecasas has been a member of the association since 1960, the year in which he wore the gown in the provincial court of appeals for the first time.

In his speech, Olivencia traced his career, highlighting that he had experienced “the most profound change in our profession since Rome, involving the shift from the individual and general lawyer to the law firm and specialties.”

In 1960, Manuel Olivencia founded the law firm Olivencia-Ballester, which was integrated into Cuatrecasas in 2006. A decade later he became the firm’s honorary chairman. Mr. Olivencia’s career has always been focused on the practice of law, but he has also held positions in government, including deputy state secretary in the first government of the democracy and Expo 92 commissioner, a post he held for seven years.
