Cuatrecasas advised Grupo Concentra, a Spain-based insurance broker owned by French private equity firm BlackFin Capital Partners, on its acquisition of Obimedia, a Portugal-based insurance company with a focus on worker’s compensation and multi-risk insurance.

The transaction forms part of Grupo Concentra’s strategy to expand across the Iberian Peninsula, with a focus on strengthening its presence in Portugal. Through this acquisition, the insurance broker consolidates its position among the leading insurance brokers in the country.

This integration will enable Obimedia to broaden the range of solutions and services it offers to individual and corporate clients. The company currently provides personal insurance, including motor, accident, civil liability, travel, and life insurance, as well as business insurance in complex areas such as public works, credit and goods. Obimedia’s current managing partners will remain with the company, and its team and business model will be preserved.

The Cuatrecasas team advising Grupo Concentra was led by João Mattamouros Resende, partner of Corporate and Private Equity, and included Sofia Marques Aguiar, from Corporate.

João Mattamouros Resende commented: “The insurance brokerage market is quite active and it presents interesting opportunities for consolidation and growth. This transaction is a good example where interesting targets remain attractive despite what could be perceived as a challenging market resulting from international turmoil.”
