Cuatrecasas has just strengthened its Intellectual Property, Technology, Media and Telecommunications (IP-TMT) practice by adding a new partner, Joana Mota Agostinho, plus associates Nuno Lima da Luz, Catarina Castanheira Lopes and Lavínia Pinto Marques who come from CTSU (Deloitte Legal Network).

Joana Mota Agostinho was the partner in charge of the Digital Business, Privacy and Cybersecurity area and the three associates were part of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications department at CTSU.

A lawyer for fifteen years, three of which at the Portuguese Communications Authority ANACOM’s legal and regulatory department, Joana Mota Agostinho has extensive experience in privacy and cybersecurity, as well as in regulatory and contractual matters in the telecommunications, electronic communications and postal services, information technology, cloud computing, emerging technologies, e-commerce, advertising and media sectors. She is also a regular speaker at Portuguese and international conferences and seminars in these areas of specialization.

Joana Mota Agostinho takes on co-coordination of the Cuatrecasas IP-TMT practice with partner Sónia Queiróz Vaz.

Biographies

Joana Mota Agostinho | Coordinating partner

A lawyer with 15 years of experience, particularly in the area of Privacy and Cybersecurity, she has advised Portuguese and international clients, specifically in preparing audits of companies’ privacy management systems, in defining compliance strategies and mitigation measures, in providing Privacy as a Service services, including Privacy by Design support services and responses to data breaches. She has also assisted clients in digital transformation projects, while also developing operations in the regulatory and contractual area in the electronic communications and postal services, information technologies, outsourcing, cloud computing, emerging technologies, intellectual property, e-commerce, advertising and media sectors. The sectors in which she has accumulated experience include: pharmaceuticals, healthcare, energy, banking and insurance, telecommunications, media, technology companies and hospitality.

She practiced law at Coelho Ribeiro e Associados (2003) and Vieira de Almeida & Associados (2005-2012) and worked for three years in the legal department at ANACOM–Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (the Portuguese Communications Authority), moving in 2015 to CTSU (Deloitte Legal Network). She is often invited to speak at Portuguese and international conferences and seminars in her practice areas.

She has a bachelor in Law and a post-graduate degree in Intellectual Property from the School of Law of the Universidade de Lisboa and holds a master in Communications and Computer Law from Queen Mary University of London. She has also taken several university courses in Patents, Intellectual Property, Telecommunications and Blockchain.

 

Nuno Lima da Luz | Associate

A lawyer in the area of Privacy and Data Protection, in the last two years, he has played an active role in compliance audits in companies from different sectors such as banking and finance, healthcare, insurance and telecommunications. He has also helped create privacy policies and ethical guidelines and provided legal advice in projects in different service lines, particularly those involving international data transfer. He has advised Portuguese and international clients on risk assessment of emerging technologies (AI, blockchain, the cloud) and has actively participated in digital transformation projects in the area of Legal by Design. He has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating licensing, distribution and development agreements.

He has a bachelor in Law, a master in Forensic Law and a post-graduate degree in Tax Accounting from the School of Law at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa de Lisboa.

 

Catarina Castanheira Lopes | Associate

A lawyer with 15 years of experience, her work has focused on privacy and personal data protection, cybersecurity, technology, media and telecommunications. She has specific experience in developing and implementing gap analysis projects for compliance with data protection legislation. She also provides legal advice on Privacy as a Service and DPO as a Service. In addition, she acts as a Data Protection Officer (DPO), directly involved in the daily operations of clients.

She has a bachelor in Law and a master in Forensic Law from the School of Law of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa de Lisboa. She has also taken two university courses in Data Protection.

 

Lavínia Pinto Marques | Associate

She has worked in Privacy and Data Protection, specifically in coordinating end-to-end compliance projects, i.e., from gap analysis to creating action plans and implementing privacy management procedures and systems. She has also provided privacy services and has worked as a Data Protection Officer (DPO), and has been directly involved in the businesses of clients from a wide range of sectors. She has also been part of several Legal Due Diligence teams and provided legal advice on managing software licensing agreements.

She has a bachelor in Law from the Universidade do Minho and holds a master in Law and IT from the same institution. She has also taken university courses in Law and Blockchain, and in Cybersecurity and Cyberspace Law.
