Specialist in complex disputes and in international arbitration, with over 20 years of experience.

César Rivera focuses his practice on conflicts related to M&A transactions, joint ventures and venture capital, and on disputes involving international energy and construction projects.

He has participated in many arbitration proceedings, including ad hoc, UNCITRAL and arbitration proceedings administered by the main international arbitration courts (e.g., ICC and LCIA) and Spanish arbitration courts (e.g., Corte de Arbitraje de Madrid, CIMA and TAB), representing Spanish and foreign companies and also acting as arbitrator.

He is member of the arbitration and litigation committees of the International Bar Association (IBA), of the Club Español del Arbitraje (CEA) and of the Barcelona Bar Association’s (ICAB) Arbitration Commission of which he was vice-president for several years. He is a founding member and currently vice-president of the Asociación para el Fomento del Arbitraje (AFA). He is also a member of ICAB’s International Relations Commission.

César Rivera is an associate lecturer on the Master in International Business Law at ESADE Business & Law School, where he teaches the subject “Strategies on international commercial disputes.” He also lectures on international arbitration in the Master of Laws at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He frequently participates as a panelist in international arbitration events organized by different associations, including IBA, ICC, CEA, ICAB and AFA and regularly contributes to publications and collective works on arbitration.
