Cuatrecasas Acelera launches fourth program to promote legaltech startups and startups with high legal complexity

May 23, 2019

Cuatrecasas Acelera, the first startup accelerator program in Europe created by a law firm, has announced the launch of its fourth edition after having already accompanied over 20 startups together with Telefónica Open Future. This year’s program will focus on projects with innovative solutions for the legaltech sector, startups with a technological foundation and high legal complexity from other areas (fintech, insurtech and regtech) offering solutions for digitizing business, and projects offering solutions using blockchain technology and smartcontracts. Early stage startups that are less than five years old and have a minimum viable product (MVP) can participate. During four months, the projects selected will have the legal, business and technological support they require, as well as access to clients and financing.

Given the success of last year’s Fast Track program, this year, more mature startups will also be selected to develop a pilot at Cuatrecasas from day one. This will enable the companies to work on and validate their initiatives in a real professional environment. The program is aimed at legaltech and technology (AI, blockchain, big data…) startups that can co-develop a use case relating to the challenges set by Cuatrecasas: maximizing collective knowledge, improving productivity and efficiency through automation, experimenting with blockchain, and creating smart contracts to business.

The application process to participate in the fourth program begins today, May 23, and will remain open until July 15. On June 5 and 12, there will be information days in Barcelona and Madrid, at which the program will be presented to interested parties, and participants from previous years will share their experience. In September, between 20 and 45 initiatives will be pre-selected for the Acelera program and 4 startups will be pre-selected for the Fast Track program; that same month, the 6 startups selected for the Acelera program and the 2 startups selected to develop a pilot with Cuatrecasas will be announced.

Cuatrecasas Acelera will once again have the support of Telefónica Open Future for this fourth edition, and will collaborate with Netmentora, Microbank and Alastria. Alastria will provide technological advice to the startups that develop projects with blockchain technology.
