Like every year, this January the Cuatrecasas Knowledge and Innovation Group and School of Law kicked off a new edition of the Interoffice Debate Tournament that—within the firm’s Mentor Plan—is exclusively for practical training purposes. It is aimed at trainee lawyers and junior associates from all practice areas, who joined in the last year, to develop their speaking skills.

With this competitive training event, the firm provides the opportunity for the new lawyers to develop a cross-sectoral and generic skill set that is essential for contract negotiation and participation in court proceedings and arbitration, such as the ability to speak in public, work as a team, analyze information and argue a case.

Once again, this year, the teams of lawyers competed in several rounds of debate held by Zoom, which concluded with the semifinals and finals being held in person on October 26.

After following debates of the highest level by over 100 participants, a panel comprising the firm’s lawyers Elena Cuatrecasas, César Rivera and Maribel Villaró announced the winners of the 2023 edition: the team made up of Antonio de la Cruz, Aitor García and Andrea Muñoz, who faced the team of María José Aguirre and Emilio Torres in the final round.

As usual, the semifinal of the Debate Tournament was closely contested, with the participation of four teams, including lawyers Clara Castán, Javier García, Joan Braun, Manuela Gaitán, María Marcote and Pablo Gironés.
