Cuatrecasas has expanded its Porto office and Public Law Practice Area by welcoming Tiago Amorim—a lawyer with 30 years of experience—as a partner. This addition reinforces the firm’s dedication to the Public Law Practice Area and advances its strategy in Portugal.

Tiago Amorim specializes in administrative law and has been involved in some of Portugal’s most significant and intricate public–private projects over the past few decades. He is widely recognized in the northern region as one of the foremost lawyers in this practice area.

In terms of litigation, he has represented clients in numerous arbitration proceedings and has served as an arbitrator on multiple occasions.

Throughout his career, he has combined his legal practice with academia, teaching seminars and postgraduate courses at several prestigious institutions, including Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Escola do Porto (UCP-EP), and Universidade do Porto.

Nuno Sá Carvalho, managing partner of Cuatrecasas in Portugal, remarked, “Cuatrecasas focuses on operations of the highest complexity and serves the most prominent clients in the market. Therefore, to achieve our strategic goals and deliver added value to our clients, we seek exceptional talent. The addition of Tiago Amorim aligns perfectly with our Strategic Plan for the coming years.”

Lourenço Vilhena de Freitas, coordinator of the Public Law Practice Area, also commented, “The addition of Tiago Amorim is of great importance, enhancing the technical expertise of the firm’s Public Law team. He is a seasoned lawyer capable of addressing complex challenges and is an important partner in Porto and the public law area.”

Tiago Amorim stated, “Joining Cuatrecasas feels like coming home. In 1998, I joined Gonçalves Pereira, Castelo Branco & Associados, which later established an agreement with Cuatrecasas. I now return to a firm that has undergone remarkable international growth. I aim to contribute my experience to advancing the Public Law Practice Area and furthering the development of the Porto office as a whole.”

Tiago Amorim graduated in law from UCP-EP and completed his postgraduate studies in Territorial Planning, Urban Development, and Environmental Law at Universidade de Coimbra Law School, as well as in New Administrative Litigation at UCP-EP. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the Universidade do Porto Law School.

In addition to his legal practice, he has authored numerous articles in co-authored works and academic journals and regularly speaks at conferences and seminars.
