Mutua Madrileña has acquired 40% of Orienta Capital, a management company specializing in large assets, thus reinforcing its presence in the Basque Country’s private banking sector. Mutua Madrileña has the option to raise its participation to up to 80% of the shareholding at the end of 2023.

The Cuatrecasas lawyers Eduardo Ramírez, Natalia Tallada, Álvaro Lucena and María Corzo, together with the law firm’s due diligence teams, advised Mutua Madrileña on this important transaction, which comes under the insurer’s inorganic growth policy in the private banking and asset management sector. Over the past two years, Cuatrecasas has advised the Mutua Group on four transactions in this sector: Alantra Wealth Management, Alantra Asset Management, EDM and Orienta Capital.

Orienta Capital, which is currently managing assets worth over €1.8 million and has offices in Madrid, Bilbao and San Sebastián, will continue with its current business involving managing and advising on assets, managing investment funds, discretionary management and special transactions.

This transaction will be closed in the first quarter of 2021, after the corresponding authorizations have been obtained.
