Cuatrecasas has advised Ashmore Colombia on the full buyout of Lycée Français Medellín—the operating company of Institución Educativa Liceo Francés de Medellín—through the private equity funds Ashmore Andean Fund III and Fondo Ashmore Andino III.

The transaction is part of the consolidation and expansion strategy of Legacy Schools—Ashmore’s K-12 educational platform in Colombia—which aims to integrate high-quality educational institutions with significant social impact while preserving their values ??and academic identity. This allows them to benefit from a broader educational network, institutional best practices, and support for long-term development.

Felipe Mariño, the Corporate and M&A partner who led the transaction, highlighted: "This transaction marks a significant milestone in the consolidation of Legacy Schools as one of the most attractive K-12 educational platforms in Colombia. For Ashmore, the acquisition of the Liceo Francés de Medellín combines scale, academic quality, and a clear growth opportunity in a distinctive educational asset."

Founded in 2015, the Liceo Francés de Medellín is a highly regarded private educational institution in the capital of Antioquia, serving over 600 students. It employs a trilingual educational model and holds accreditation from the AEFE (Agence pour l'Enseignement Français à l'Étranger), a global network of French international schools.

The Cuatrecasas advisory team for Ashmore Colombia was led by partner Felipe Mariño, in collaboration with lawyers Natalia Villamizar, José Manuel Castillo, and Juan David Castellanos (Corporate and M&A); Santiago Jaramillo (Finance); Jaime Vargas and José Manuel Jaramillo (Tax); Margarita Llorente and Angélica Bernal (Real Estate); and Isabella Gandini and Juan Felipe Benedetti (Labor and Employment).
