Entrepreneur Haralabos Voulgaris takes over CD Castellón Football Club
July 28, 2022
Cuatrecasas advised the entrepreneur Haralabos Voulgaris on acquiring and taking over football club CD Castellón SAD. The signing took place on the eve of the club’s centenary celebrations, after nearly a year of intensive work with the client and his advisors to analyze the transaction and investment in a Spanish football club.

Given the importance of the window being open in the player transfer market, the new investor and majority shareholder needed to guarantee immediate control of the club as well as management of the Albinegra Foundation in the Autonomous Community of Valencia. This entity is responsible for CD Castellón’s lower-category teams and was one of the most important factors considered when negotiating the contracts, in addition to all the specifics of sports corporations.

“The transaction, despite involving a third-tier Royal Spanish Football Federation club, presented legal challenges similar to those of a First or Second Division club due to this club’s sophisticated structure and particular elements inherent to the transaction—specifically the dates to execute and close the transaction during the transfer window,” comments Roberto Álvarez. Using a procedure specifically designed for this transaction, the client will be able to plan the 2022-23 season and take relevant decisions immediately.

The Cuatrecasas team advising Haralabos Voulgaris on the transaction was led by partners Marta Máñez and Roberto Álvarez, and included lawyers Bartolomé Sánchez, Valentín García, Alejandro Negro, Sergio Fernández, Sergio Ruiz, Lucía Trigo, Megan Hackney, Cristina Serna, Suniva Gómez, Jaime Rubio, Carlos Puente, Lidia Margareto, Javier Ramírez, Ana Mullor and Raúl Pérez.
