Cuatrecasas has advised the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Banco Santander on the signing of a €224 million financing agreement with Greene Enterprise to build five innovative industrial plants in Spain, which will convert over 200,000 tonnes of waste annually into raw materials for industry. Approximately 50% of the financing will come from the EIB and the other 50% from Santander.

These facilities, which will transform the waste into high-value-added products for industry, are located in Muel (Zaragoza), La Selva del Camp (Tarragona), San Cristóbal de Entreviñas (Zamora), Madridejos (Toledo), and As Somozas (A Coruña).

The construction and commissioning of the Valogreene plants contributes to European public policy objectives of climate action and the circular economy, as well as to the development of the local economy and employment in the towns where they are located.

The Cuatrecasas team advising Banco Santander was made up of lawyers Tomás Ugalde, Álvaro Pérez-Iriondo, Teresa Allende, and Unai Arredondo, with support from Nerea Arana and Garazi Azpiazu in due diligence. The team advising the EIB was formed by Héctor Bros, Pol Solsona, Mireia Martínez Sedó, and Adrián Coca.

Regarding this transaction, Tomás Ugalde highlighted, "Our advice on this transaction demonstrates the strong position of Cuatrecasas in financing innovative circular economy projects and in transactions aligned with green finance principles”.
