
Key aspects
- The length of birth and childcare leave is extended from 16 to 19 weeks for each parent in two-parent families. In single-parent families, it is extended to 32 weeks.
- The first six weeks must be taken uninterruptedly following childbirth or adoption. An additional 11 weeks (or 22 weeks in single-parent families) may be taken at the parent’s discretion until the child turns 12 months old.
- Another two weeks (or four weeks in single-parent families) of paid leave may be taken at the parent’s discretion until the child turns eight years old.
- The full leave is paid with the public social security benefit, equivalent to 100% of the regulatory base.
- Partial retroactive leave applies to causal events occurring from August 2, 2024, and leave periods may be requested starting January 1, 2026.
