Many articles explain that the 2014 Directive on Antitrust Damages has enhanced the private enforcement of competition law through civil claims in all Member States.

This article is a global overview of the relevance and presence of private enforcement of competition law in Spain. It takes into account the most recent developments in the field and refers to legal and procedural issues currently open to debate in Spanish private enforcement proceedings (many relating to the well-known "trucks cartel case"). We then focus on the importance of the economic side of these types of claims to determine and quantify damages, and concludes by referring to the most recent efforts of the Spanish competition authority to develop a reputable private enforcement practice in Spain.
