Pedro Marques Bom, Director-General of Investigation at the Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC) until February this year, has joined Cuatrecasas as coordinating partner of EU and Competition Law department. Luís Bordalo e Sá, a lawyer at the AdC, who was previously an associate at PLMJ and Sérvulo, will also join Cuatrecasas in the same department in April.

Maria João Ricou, managing partner at Cuatrecasas in Portugal, said, “a new partner with Pedro Marques Bom's background and experience is a significant reinforcement for our EU and Competition Law department and a clear sign of our continuous commitment to having an excellent team, as part of a strategy for the continued consolidation and development of several specialty areas.”

With 20 years’ experience, Pedro Marques Bom had worked at the AdC since 2013 as Director-general for Investigation, as well as in the positions of head of the legal and litigation department, where he was responsible for the AdC’s entire operational area (restrictive practices, merger control, and litigation). Between 2009 and 2013, he was a senior associate at PLMJ; between 2007 and 2008, he was a consultant-advisor for the AdC's board; between 2006 and 2007, he was the head of the Defense of Competition Service at the Portuguese Health Regulatory Entity; between 2003 and 2006, he was a legal advisor for the AdC's Merger Control Department; and between 1999 and 2003, he worked as a lawyer in private practice.

For Pedro Marques Bom, “joining a leading law firm on the Iberian Peninsula with Cuatrecasas’ experience is a great opportunity and a very stimulating professional challenge, which results in a commitment to rigorousness and excellence. After several years working in both the public and private sectors, I now hope to contribute to consolidating the Cuatrecasas team, which is an unquestionable reference in EU and Competition Law.”

The Cuatrecasas team includes consultant Rita Leandro Vasconcelos, who recently won the international Women@Competition '40 in their 40s' award, given to professionals in competition law in the public and private sectors as well as in universities.

Pedro Marques Bom is the second Portuguese partner recruited by Cuatrecasas this year, following Miguel de Almada, who left Morais Leitão to join the firm to coordinate the Litigation and Arbitration department.

This week, Cuatrecasas also announced that Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría is joining the firm as a new partner and board member. She will be leading and developing the firm's Corporate Governance and Compliance Practice.
