SubscribeCuatrecasas advised Clínicas Mi, a group with extensive experience in hospital management, on incorporating a new center in Tarragona and on expanding Mi NovAliança, its hospital in Lleida.
These transactions enable the Clínicas Mi group to make progress with its regional growth strategy through the acquisition of Policlínica El Vendrell, a leading private center in the Baix Penedès area, and the upcoming opening of a new outpatient building at the Mi NovAliança hospital in Lleida. With an overall investment of over €40 million, including the respective improvement plans, the hospital group, chaired by Gabriel Masfurroll Cortada and owned by the Portobello fund, reinforces its presence in Catalonia and continues to explore new growth opportunities.
The incorporation of Policlínica El Vendrell is in line with the Clínicas Mi model, focused on integrating centers with strong roots in Catalonia, preserving its identity, and enhancing its healthcare capabilities, in keeping with its founding motto ‘Curar y Cuidar’ (Cure and Care).
At the same time, the group is expanding the services at Mi NovAliança, its hospital in Lleida, with the upcoming opening of an outpatient building, just a few meters from its current clinic. The complex, measuring over 2,500 square meters, will allocate 1,300 square meters to healthcare facilities and 1,200 to parking, and will have 26 highly specialized outpatient consulting rooms.
Integrated healthcare and social care center
The Policlínica Comarcal de El Vendrell, located in Santa Oliva (Tarragona, Spain), offers a wide range of healthcare services, including 24-hour emergency services, a surgical suite, inpatient care, outpatient services, and diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT and ultrasound). It also provides publicly funded health and social care services under an agreement with the Catalan health service, including a day hospital and assisted living facilities for convalescence, rehabilitation, and recovery.
The Cuatrecasas team providing the advice was led by partners Xavier Morera (M&A/Private Equity) and Pol Solsona (Finance).
Regarding the advisory service, Xavier Morera said: “This was a sophisticated transaction involving particular sensitivities and interests given the family-owned nature of the seller.”
