SubscribeCuatrecasas has advised Naturmet Plus, a company backed by FIEE SGR, ABE Capital Partners, and the Oleofat Group—specializing in the valorization of waste and by-products of agricultural and agro-industrial origin—on project finance structuring for approximately €60 million. The financing is allocated to constructing three biomethane production plants in Andalusia and Extremadura.
The transaction, financed by BBVA, Banco Santander, and Abanca, and with Finergreen acting as financial advisor, is one of the first project finance deals for the construction of a portfolio of biomethane production plants in Spain. Biomethane is a renewable gas obtained from purifying biogas generated by the decomposition of non-hazardous organic waste, which, compared to fossil-based natural gas, drastically reduces CO2 emissions.
Innovation, quality, and sustainability
Since its foundation in 2021, Naturmet has sought to bring a circular economy model to rural areas, based on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and connecting it with the needs of industry by using carbon-neutral or even carbon-negative fuels. Its growth is based on a strong commitment to innovation and development, and more specifically, to investment in new technologies related to biomethane.
The Cuatrecasas advisory team was made up of lawyers Tomás Ugalde, Irene Sanz, and Julio Aznar (Finance); Alejandro Bonitch, Ignacio Giner, and Irene Ortega (Public Law); Javier Calle (Tax); and Sora Park (Corporate and M&A).
