SubscribeCuatrecasas has advised Acciona Energía Global (“Acciona Energía”) on selling its shares in subsidiary Energía Renovable del Sur—holding company and operator of the San Juan de Marcona wind farm, located in the Ica region of Peru—to Luz del Sur for USD 253 million.
The San Juan de Marcona wind farm is one of the most significant renewable energy generation projects in Peru, and Luz del Sur is one of the country's most important energy companies. With an installed capacity of 135.7 MW, the wind farm began its commercial operations at the end of 2023.
The transaction’s closing is expected to take place before the end of 2025, and is subject to complying with certain conditions established in the agreement, including obtaining the corresponding authorization from the Peruvian National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property.
This transaction forms part of Acciona Energía’s strategy of selective asset rotation aimed at value crystallization and preserving a strong credit profile, strengthening its growth and business model as a global leader in renewable energy.
Oscar Trelles, managing partner of the Cuatrecasas Lima office who led this transaction, commented: “We are proud to have assisted Acciona Energía, a leading company in renewable energy, on this project from its acquisition a few years ago, to its development, construction and implementation, and now on its sale. This shows that the Peruvian market is continuing to consolidate its position as a benchmark for high-impact sustainable projects, attracting international capital and encouraging the energy transition.”
The advisory team from the Lima office was made up of Oscar Trelles, Giorgio Balza, Mariano Peró, Luis Enrique Baca, and Víctor Tejada, together with Soraya Romero from the Madrid office.
