Ibero-American law firm Cuatrecasas has launched the Cuatrecasas Legal Week, a pioneering program aimed at students of law at undergraduate (final year) and postgraduate level at the leading universities in Latin America. The program combines academic training in global and strategic legal matters, with the opportunity to learn about the firm’s legal practice model and gain innovative and unique professional experience. With this initiative Cuatrecasas strengthens its position in Latin America through alliances with prestigious academic institutions in the region and reaffirms its commitment to training the new generations of jurists.

The first Cuatrecasas Legal Week—held from March 27 to 31 at the firm’s Barcelona office—was attended by 45 law students from Mexico’s Panamerican University (UP), who were accompanied by the deans of two of the UP’s law faculties. The students participated in several practical sessions facilitated by the firm’s lawyers on innovative and cross-sectoral subjects with international business law content, and on the impact of technologies on companies’ advisory needs. They also attended sessions facilitated by external lawyers at the Barcelona Bar Association, the Vila Casas Private Foundation and the Barcelona Opera House.

"We are extremely proud to present our firm to the law students of Mexico’s prestigious Panamerican University and to share our knowledge on the keys to business law in an innovative and international environment” noted Maribel Villaró, Cuatrecasas partner and the program director. “They are the first participants in this initiative, which we want to take into the future as a permanent program that combines excellent academic training with our experience in the practice of business law.”

“This has been an incredible experience for the students in the final year of their university degree because it gives them the opportunity to learn about legal trends in Europe, which then come to Latin America. After a week of presentations, we are all taking back many valuable lessons. We would like to thank Cuatrecasas for this invitation; the event surpassed our expectations,” said Isabel Álvarez, dean of the Faculty of Law of the UP Guadalajara campus.

Similarly, Fernando Bayram, a UP final-year law student and participant in this first Legal Week, also commented: "Cuatrecasas Legal Week is a truly worthwhile experience, a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the sector’s latest trends. What I found most interesting about the program was how highly specialized the lawyers were who gave the talks on the newest branches of law, those that are still not as common but are emerging in professional practice due to the growing need of companies."

Now that the first edition of the program in Barcelona has concluded, the partners of the Cuatrecasas Mexico City office will organize a practical workshop for the attendees.
