SubscribeOn September 7, Cuatrecasas welcomed 20 trainee lawyers to its Lisbon and Porto offices for a new edition of the firm’s Welcome Program. The recent graduates, some of whom have also recently completed master’s degrees, are beginning the professional traineeship required for admission to the Portuguese Bar Association.
The new trainee lawyers studied at leading institutions, including the University of Coimbra School of Law, the University of Lisbon School of Law, the University of Minho School of Law, the NOVA School of Law—School of Law at NOVA University Lisbon, and the Lisbon and Porto Schools of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
Their first rotations will be in the following practice areas: Arbitration, Competition & Foreign Direct Investment, Corporate, Finance, Tax, Real Estate, Labor and Employment, Criminal Law, Public Law, and Intellectual and Industrial Property.
On their first day, the trainees attended a welcome and orientation session led by key members of Cuatrecasas in Portugal. Specifically, the session brought them together with Nuno Sá Carvalho, the firm’s managing partner in Portugal; João Mattamouros Resende, Pedro Vidal Matos, Rui Vaz Pereira, and Sara Quaresma, members of the Traineeship Committee; Mónica Teixeira André, the Knowledge and Innovation Group coordinator in Portugal; and Leonor Vila Luz, Rui Rodrigues da Cunha, Laura Galarito, and Margarida Ferreira, from the People & Culture Team in Portugal.
Over the coming weeks, the trainee lawyers will take part in a series of in-person and online training sessions designed to give them a broad understanding of legal practice at an international law firm.
