Fifth Cuatrecasas Acelera: large part of program digitalized
May 26, 2020

Cuatrecasas Acelera, the first startup accelerator program in Europe promoted by a law firm, which has promoted almost 30 projects already, launches its fifth edition. The accelerator program for legaltech startups and startups with high legal complexity opens registration for its fifth edition. To maintain the level of the selection and mentoring processes in digital format, Cuatrecasas will use the most advanced technology. This edition focuses on blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies and will award to the six startups selected a wallet of 80 blockchain-based tokens that can be exchanged for legal services. Netmentora, Microbank and Alastria will collaborate in the program.

The selection process, which will be carried out in digital format, will assess projects with innovative solutions for business law, with a technological foundation and with a high legal complexity from other areas that offer solutions for digitizing business, and projects focused on blockchain technology solutions and smartcontracts. The selected projects will receive four months of legal, business and technological support, as well as access to clients and financing. A network of mentors and experts (external to Cuatrecasas) from different business areas will also accompany the startups during the program.

Simultaneously, the Fast Track program will select two more mature legaltech or technological startups and develop use cases with them oriented towards a challenge established by Cuatrecasas: maximize the collective knowledge, improve productivity and efficiency through automation and blockchain, or create smartcontracts applicable to business. The aim of the pilot project is to enable the companies to work on and validate their initiatives in a real professional environment.

In September, between 20 and 25 initiatives will be pre-selected to participate in the accelerator program and four startups will be pre-selected for the Fast Track program; that same month, the selected startups will be announced: six for the accelerator program and two for the Fast Track program.

About Cuatrecasas Acelera

The startup accelerator program for the legaltech sector and startups with high legal complexity designed by the law firm Cuatrecasas identifies the best talent from among European projects with great potential to (i) promote them through a four-month accelerator program; (ii) provide them with legal, business and technological support; and (iii)  give them access to clients and to financing. The winning projects from previous years were: the banking and financing startup TOQIO (fourth edition), certification application based on blockchain technology BlockTac (third edition), the startup involving drones for companies and institutions FuVeX (third edition), the electronic signature platform Validated ID (second edition) and fintech platform TheLogicValue (first edition).

Also, in every edition, the Cuatrecasas Acelera Fast Track program selects two more mature legaltech or technological startups and develops a use case with them, to give the companies an opportunity to learn about and validate the viability of their initiatives in a real professional environment.
