Cybersecurity has emerged as a critical concern for organisations in Spain. According to the statistical data published by the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (Instituto Nacional de Ciberseguridad, INCIBE) in 2025, cyber-attacks increased by 26 per cent compared to the previous year. The sectors most significantly affected by such incidents included banking, transportation, energy, financial services, insurance and supply chain operations.

In this context, cybersecurity has been established as a board-level function, driven by regulatory pressure and the recognition that cyber risk constitutes enterprise risk. According to Deloitte’s report titled El estado de la ciberseguridad en España 2026, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as the primary challenge for 77 per cent of chief information security off icers (CISOs), surpassing third-party risk management (76 per cent) and regulatory compliance (69 per cent). Ransomware remains the most critical threat (88 per cent), followed by data exfiltration (75 per cent) and third-party exposure (73 per cent).
